This site started as an idea to provide a conduit between people who had and people who were searching for knowledge on how to add a little of the back to basics mentality to their lifestyle. This past Winter left grocery store shelves lacking items people always needed which led me to wonder what would happen if the situation were magnified and widespread.

Everyone always hears that items grown in your garden are of a higher quality than attained at a store but just as important is the dependability of being able to produce your own sustenance, perhaps even moreso in the times we live in when you can't rely on many things that were once taken for granted and guaranteed to be there. Continuing to think about how self-reliance on your own cultivation of food could lessen the burden of household budgets and the global food safety concerns that we've recently encountered led me to realize there were many operations at work in the original foundation of the communities of the past that could help us now if implemented. Imagine if you could barter for something you needed and save the money you would spend on that item otherwise.

Perhaps you could trade your ability for someone else's. You need plumbing done but you're a tailor, however there's a plumber who needed some mending done...both problems solved and money saved. Perhaps you'll meet with someone who is interested in starting a local cobbling business or a clothing company that passes on the savings to local consumers since the product is made locally therefore saving people money by avoiding the overseas shipping costs since everything is created locally. It is my belief that the strength of communities throughout our country provides a strong nation, not the other way around. Therefore, if each city is producing something and each household is saving money in certain areas which allows money to be spent in other areas, the city thrives and in turn the state thrives which leads to a thriving nation, economic and otherwise.

The interactivity that this site provides to everyone will create friendships between people who can help each other achieve a more fullfilling life so that you won't have to talk about the good old days, the good old days will be lived right now.
